Community Reaching Community

What an opportunity we had two weeks ago to reach our community with the gospel of Jesus Christ! For the second time we hosted VBS’s around the city. This time we did VBS in 5 different locations and my own personal count put the number of kids involved at around 120 or so. Amazing! Over 60 church members serving our community for a week. And what a week. Temperatures soared and by the end of the week a wildfire was covering Pasadena with smoke and ash that covered everything. Yet God in his mercy made everything work out in a way that allowed us to have an extremely successful week, culminating in a wonderful celebration picnic.

This is a big shout out to all you who served. I can’t tell you how many parents I met at the picnic that were so blessed by the times their children enjoyed at the individual sites. So many worked so hard to make this a success. It was truly our church community reaching out to our broader city community and doing it very effectively. You will never know until eternity the full effect and fruit of the week. One thing is for sure; you demonstrated what a church community should look like and influenced many, both child and adult, with a visible demonstration of the gospel.

i wasn’t sure we would have much of acelebration picnic. That morning the smoke and ash were so think I questioned whether anyone would turn out, but by noon not only had the wind changed and moved most of the smoke out, but by picnic time the temps had fallen to a comfortable level. That seemed miraculous given the temps through out the week. God was so good! We had a great turnout, and I met and talked with numerous people who came to the picnic and in some cases had a wonderful opportunity to share the gospel. And, as usual, you as a church showed up in force to serve and interact with new people. Once again, a compelling community at work! Thank you!

It is such a privilege to be included in Christ’s church and have opportunities to serve people who haven’t yet grasped the gospel. One thing is for sure...as they watch you serving as you do, and relating to each other as the people of God they will be drawn to the very thing they need the most; a relationship with God and his people!

Keep up the good work! God is glorified, Christ is exalted, the gospel is spread, and we had a lot of fun in the process!
