“The waves and wind still know his name.”
This line from a song has been on my mind and in my heart all week and while I was humming it to myself, the Lord reminded me of the many names of God we see in Scripture.
El Shaddai - Lord God Almighty
Jehovah Raffa - The Lord Who Heals
Jehovah Shammah - The Lord is There
Jehovah Mekoddishkem- The Lord Who Sanctifies You
Jehovah Jireh - The Lord will Provide
Jehovah Shalom - The Lord is Peace
Jehovah Raah - The Lord is My Shepherd
Adonai - Master
Jehovah Saboath - The Lord of Hosts
When Jesus was here on earth, he spoke to turbulent wind and waves and they obeyed him and became calm. (Matt. 8:23-27)
When we find ourselves sinking under the waves and wind of trials, sickness, depression, anxiety, addictions, relational difficulties… etc., the Holy Spirit wants to remind us that these waves and wind still know his name -- and still obey him.
We need to be encouraged and reminded that God’s Name has power: He’s the Creator and King of the universe, the Ultimate Sovereign, Redeemer, Rescuer. He's a personal God-Immanuel: God with us. The One who speaks directly into the circumstances and the storms of our lives.
When we worship - we’re declaring this truth to our souls - as a reminder - that the whole world - and our circumstances- are under his command.
