In our series on Sunday in 1 Peter we once again came to a subject that Peter addressed over and over in this book. Suffering. Obviously Peter was concerned with preparing us for suffering and its eventuality. After listening to Ron’s message Sunday I couldn’t help but think about the many faithful people in this church who I have had the privilege of observing over the years as you suffered the various and sundry trials and endured them in a Godly and humble way. There is something so encouraging about looking around the room and watching people enter into worship and respond to the preaching knowing that you have gone through significant times of trial and glorified God through the whole process. Whether its been sickness, relational difficulties, financial challenges, parenting issues, spiritual depression or whatever (and I’ve seen and experienced them all!), it has filled me with such joy to see your faith endure, your heart for God and his church grow, and your joy in serving him stand the test of time. God is very pleased!
Paul said “ I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. It is right for me to feel this way about you all, because I hold you in my heart, for you are all partakers with me of grace, both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel. For God is my witness, how I yearn for you all with the affection of Christ Jesus.” (Phil. 1:3-8) I can truly say with Paul that you hold a place of great affection in my heart!
It is vital and a joy to walk out this life in Christ with like minded believers who sincerely love the Lord and each other. For me, i can’t think of any other group of people I’d rather walk this out with! Thanks for your perseverance and joy through all the suffering God has allowed in your life. He does it all for our good and His glory!
Here’s to growing thru all the sufferings both past, present and future!
