Sermon Title: The Worshiping Church

Colossians 3:9-17
Proposition Statement:
Singing in the corporate worship setting is God-ordained, God-glorifying, and vital to the church’s growth, edification, encouragement, and mission together.
Introduction:
In today’s passage, the apostle Paul addresses the reason, the response, and the result of worship.
Point 1: The Reason: Christ is All
We sing because “Christ is all, and in all” (v. 11). Chosen by God and made holy and loved (v. 12), Christians are created for community (v. 11) and for righteousness (v. 12-14), enabled to bear with one another because of Christ (v. 12). In our imperfection, we come together as a corporate body to celebrate our perfection in Him.
Point 2: The Response: Worship through Singing
Because Christ is all (v. 11), we respond with singing in worship. The word of God is to dwell in us richly and to fuel our worship as we sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs (v. 16).
